Cdv of Union Spy & Officer Major Nahum W. Cady, who served in the 2nd New York Mounted Rifles. Included are copies of a report to the president signed by Joseph Holt (see partial scan below) about Cady's service as a scout and spy, and he was twice a prisoner in Richmond! Also included is a copy of a large two page letter signed by the officers of the regiment attesting to Cady's abilities as an officer. All to no avail, Cady was discharged for dis-respect to his commanding officers. The discharge was later changed to an honorable one post war. Cady was truly a union hero!
