On 12/24/1862 he was commissioned into Field & Staff PA 18th Cavalry He was discharged on 12/29/1864

Identity: Bryan was a geologist.

Life: A classmate of Whistler at West Point, he resigned from the army in 1857, but served in the Civil War, being discharged wounded in 1864. He became a geologist.
