2d Lieut 32d Infty. June 30, 1862; 1st Lieut Sept 1, 1862; Capt. 4th Cavalry Jan. 22, 1864; Major 26th N. Y. Cavalry, Feb. 28, 1865; Major 4th Mass. Cavalry. Commander of Post 104, G. A. R. [Grand Army of the Republic], in 1877, 1878, and 1879.

Edward T. Bouve' also held commissions in the military service of the Commonwealth after 1865 [and prior to 1898]. He was "Colonel and Aide-de-camp to his Excellency Governor Long; Captain and Engineer on staff of Brig.-Gen. Nat Wales, 1st Brigade, M. V. M., Feb. 9,1883; Captain and Provost Marshal, 1st Brigade, May 24, 1887; Captain and Aide-de-camp, 1st Brigade, April 10, 1888.
