Here is a transcript:

San Antonio, Texas, Nov. 7th 70.
Captain Clarence Mauck,
U.S. 4th Calvary.
Sir,
I have just received your letter dated October 28th, in which you ask me to state my opinion of you as an officer, and a gentleman; also the condition of your company whilst under my command. In reply it gives me pleasure to state that I found you an officer of intelligence, always attentive to your duties, that your habits were good, and that your company was in good discipline, and in all respects in good condition. I consider you as an Officer and a gentleman well fitted for the position you occupy in the Army. You served under my immediate command at Austin, Texas for about twelve months.

Respectfully,
your obedient servant
L. P. Graham.
Colonel US 4th Calvary"
