Rare one page Mexican War letter, written from Mexico City while American forces was occupying the city.
"City of Mexico May 16th 48
When you were in this city, I mentioned to you a letter I received from the family of the late Capt Bronaugh in reference to his effects &
I now send the letter to you, so you can be governed as to there place of residence, it would be a charitable act on your part if you would attend to it
No news of any importance. Our little friend where we dined often inquires after you
Yours & (Note-I can't read the name)Capt A.Q.M.
To Captain Webster A.Q.M."
The Webster the letter is addressed to is Lucien Bonaparte Webster, West Point Class of 1823. Webster was given brevets for gallantry and meritorious conduct in several different engagements during the Mexican War.
The "Bronaugh" referred to is Captain Robert Brounagh, Battalion of Maryland and DC infantry. Very fine condition, written in period ink on light blue paper.
