10th US Cavalry "Buffalo Soldiers" Muster Roll Signed by 52 Black Soldiers!
10th US Cavalry "Buffalo Soldiers" Muster Roll Signed by 52 Black Soldiers! Completed while stationed at Fort Sill, Indian Territory. Dated February 28th, 1873, the Roll is signed inside many times by the Captain, William B. Kennedy. Major George W. Wright, signs as commander on the front of the document.
All of the soldiers have signed with an "X" and their name added around their marks.
In very fine condition, the Roll opens easily and has only minimal fold wear. The research potential is incredible, and this would a superb addition to any collection. Few realize most of the older soldiers in this regiment were former slaves.
The United States in the 19th Century only had ten cavalry regiments, meaning twenty percent of that powerful arm of our military was manned completely by black soldiers! That is a fine complement to their fighting abilities.
